How to Close a Futures Position on Bybit?
Bybit合约交易支持多方式平仓:手动一键关闭、CCXT程序化平仓(需`reduceOnly: true`),并允许部分平仓;平仓不自动取消条件单,且资金费率按周期独立结算。(155字)

Understanding Position Closure Mechanics
1. Closing a futures position on Bybit means executing an offsetting trade that neutralizes the open contract’s directional exposure.
2. For long positions, closure occurs when a sell order of equivalent size and contract is executed.
3. For short positions, closure occurs when a buy order of identical size and contract is executed.
4. The system automatically matches the order against available liquidity or places it on the order book until filled.
5. Partial closures are supported—users may close any fraction of their position without affecting the remaining balance.
Manual Closure via Web Interface
1. Log in to your Bybit account and navigate to the Derivatives tab.
2. Select the specific contract (e.g., BTCUSDT Perpetual) from the active trading panel.
3. Locate the Open Positions section at the bottom-left corner of the chart interface.
4. Click the Close button beside the position row—this opens a confirmation modal with real-time PnL and fee preview.
5. Confirm execution; the platform processes the order instantly if sufficient liquidity exists.
Automated Closure Using CCXT
1. Initialize the Bybit exchange instance with defaultType: 'swap' and valid API credentials.
2. Fetch current open positions using fetchPositions() to identify symbol and side.
3. Construct a market order with opposite side, same symbol, and quantity equal to position size.
4. Submit the order via createOrder(), specifying type as market and params including reduceOnly: true.
5. Verify closure by polling fetchPositions() again after a brief delay.
Risk Management Implications of Closure Timing
1. Market orders execute at prevailing bid/ask prices, exposing users to slippage during high volatility.
2. Limit orders allow price control but risk non-execution if the market moves away before fill.
3. Stop-market orders trigger closure when price reaches a defined level, useful for loss containment.
4. Trailing stop orders dynamically adjust the trigger price as profit accumulates, locking in gains.
5. Forced liquidation occurs automatically when margin ratio falls below maintenance threshold, resulting in involuntary closure at market price.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: Can I close only part of my open position?Yes. Bybit supports partial closure. Enter the desired quantity manually when placing the closing order.
Q2: What happens if I close a position while funding is being calculated?Funding payments are settled independently. Closure does not affect accrued but unpaid funding—it will be credited or debited upon next settlement cycle.
Q3: Does closing a position cancel pending conditional orders linked to it?No. Conditional orders remain active unless explicitly canceled. They are not auto-removed upon position closure.
Q4: Why does my closed position still appear in the history with “Canceled” status? This indicates the closure order was placed but failed due to insufficient balance, invalid parameters, or timeout—check the order log for exact error code.
