How to Find Your Open Orders and Cancel Them Quickly on OKX?
To manage open orders on OKX, use `GET /api/v5/trade/orders-pending` (with auth headers and ISO timestamp), cancel via `POST /api/v5/trade/cancel-order`, or monitor real-time updates via WebSocket private `orders` channel.
Oct 05, 2026 at 08:59 pm
Accessing Open Orders via OKX REST API
1. Use the GET /api/v5/trade/orders-pending endpoint to retrieve all currently active orders for a specific instrument or across all instruments.
2. Authentication requires valid OK-ACCESS-KEY, OK-ACCESS-SIGN, OK-ACCESS-TIMESTAMP, and OK-ACCESS-PASSPHRASE headers.
3. The request must include a precise ISO 8601 timestamp with millisecond precision, synchronized within ±30 seconds of OKX server time.
4. Parameters like instId, ordType, and limit allow filtering results to reduce payload size and improve response speed.
5. Response contains order ID (ordId), status (state), side (side), size (sz), price (px), and creation time (ts)—all essential for accurate identification and action.
Canceling Orders Using the Trade API
1. Initiate cancellation by calling POST /api/v5/trade/cancel-order with the target ordId and corresponding instId.
2. Multiple orders can be canceled in one batch request using POST /api/v5/trade/cancel-batch-orders, supporting up to 20 orders per call.
3. Each cancellation attempt returns a code and msg field—values like 0 and success indicate successful termination.
4. If an order has already been filled or canceled, the API returns code: 51000 with message Order not exist, requiring no further action.
5. Failed cancellations due to network timeout or rate limiting must be retried with exponential backoff logic embedded in production code.
Real-Time Monitoring Through WebSocket Private Channel
1. Establish a persistent WebSocket connection to wss://ws.okx.com:8443/ws/v5/private using valid credentials.
2. Subscribe to the orders private channel with parameters specifying instType (e.g., SPOT, SWAP) and optional instId filters.
3. Every order state change—live, partially-filled, filled, canceled, pending-cancel—is pushed instantly without polling overhead.
4. Incoming messages contain ordId, state, fillSz, avgPx, and clOrdId, enabling immediate local reconciliation.
5. A heartbeat mechanism must be implemented on the client side to maintain connection stability; missing pings trigger automatic reconnection logic.
Automation with python-okx Library
1. Instantiate TradeAPI with real or demo flag set to '0' for live trading or '1' for simulation.
2. Call get_orders_pending() method to fetch pending orders, returning a list of dictionaries with full order metadata.
3. Loop through results and invoke cancel_order(instId=..., ordId=...) for each targeted order.
4. Handle exceptions such as OkxAPIException when invalid parameters or expired signatures cause failures.
5. Log every cancellation attempt—including timestamps, ordId, and response codes—to support auditability and debugging.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: Can I cancel all open orders at once?Yes. Use POST /api/v5/trade/cancel-all-orders with optional instId and instType to terminate matching orders globally or per instrument.
Q2: Why does my cancel request return “Order not found” even though it appears in pending list? This occurs when the order transitions to filled or canceled between the time you fetched it and issued the cancel command—a race condition mitigated by checking state before sending cancellation.
Q3: Is there a way to prevent accidental cancellation of high-value orders?Implement pre-cancel validation rules in your script—such as minimum ordId length checks, whitelisting of allowed instId values, or requiring manual confirmation for orders exceeding a defined sz threshold.
Q4: Do canceled orders appear in trade history? No. Canceled orders are excluded from /api/v5/trade/fills responses. They remain visible only in orders-pending until canceled and then vanish from all public endpoints unless retrieved via /api/v5/trade/orders-history with appropriate time range and state filters.
