On Tuesday, major cryptocurrency exchanges including Binance, OKX, Bitget, Backpack, and WOO X announced their support for W.

The live token launch on Wednesday coincided with an airdrop that distributed 617.3 million W tokens to over 400,000 qualified wallets. Eligible recipients included users with wallets on Sui (SUI), Solana (SOL), Aptos (APT), Injective (INJ), Osmosis (OSMO), Algorand (ALGO), and Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatible chains, as well as members of the Wormhole Discord group.

Traded primarily on the Solana blockchain, W initially debuted with a market capitalization of $2.97 billion, a circulating supply of 1.8 billion, and a fully diluted valuation (FDV) of $16 billion, according to crypto data aggregator CoinGecko.

Wormhole's official X account clarified that while the token initially launched as a Solana token, Ethereum's ERC-20 functionality would soon be enabled.

The tokenomics structure is designed to support Wormhole's long-term success, stability, and progressive decentralization."
