Despite its controversial beginnings, including persistent delays in its network launch and token release, Pi Network has become one of the most discussed projects in the cryptocurrency space. At the 2025 Consensus conference in Toronto, Pi Network founder Nicholas Kokkalis was asked about the growing popularity of Pi and whether the Pi community, often referred to as the “Pi Army,” is more vocal about decentralization or Pi itself.

Pointing out the complexity of decentralization and the challenges that come with it, Kokkalis said that when thinking of decentralization and AI, there is a technical side—embedding technology, handling training, and distributing rewards. But then there’s also the concept of value capture.

According to him, this is where blockchain technology can come into play. As he explained, blockchain enables decentralized value capture, providing opportunities for more people to benefit from technological advancements.

The founders of blockchain projects, like Pi Network, need to contemplate how blockchain can be used to help capture and distribute this value in a way that contributes to a brighter future, Kokkalis concluded.
