Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson shared that after a team of developers successfully implemented the popular video game “Doom” on Cardano’s Hydra layer two (L2) solution, programmers are now aiming to get a Nintendo emulator working on Hydra.

Recently, in a partnership announcement, Cardano joined forces with BOS to integrate the Grail bridge, opening up Cardano's decentralized finance (defi) sector to Bitcoin's $1.3 trillion liquidity.

Speaking about BOS and Hydra in a recent interview, Hoskinson explored the possibilities for BOS and Cardano together with Hydra's L2 solution.

Hydra enhances Cardano’s transaction efficiency and reduces delay by handling processes off-chain. It supports parallel transactions through “Hydra Heads” or state channels, enabling faster interactions. During the discussion, Hoskinson mentioned that developers successfully got the classic video game “Doom” running on Hydra. The demonstration showcases “Doom” running on a Hydra head, with smart contracts verifying in-game state changes.

Every action a player takes—whether walking, shooting, or looking around—gets logged as a transaction via a smart contract call on the Hydra L2 chain. Hoskinson then went on to say, “I'm gonna tell you the next thing we're gonna do… gonna break the news right here. The next thing I'm going to do after we do Hydra for the whole deathmatch for Doom, we're going to try to get a Nintendo emulator working on Hydra.”
