The Federal Bureau of Investigations arrested an Alabama man on Thursday for allegedly hacking the Security and Exchange Commission’s X (formerly Twitter) account in January and falsely posting that the regulatory agency had approved spot bitcoin ETFs.

The post sent the price of bitcoin spiraling upwards by more than $1,000. However, the SEC was yet to approve the applications.

Eric Council Jr., 25, has been charged with conspiracy to commit aggravated identity theft and access device fraud for the alleged hack, the Department of Justice said Thursday.
