Decentralized social media protocol Farcaster has integrated an in-app payments feature for its Warpcast client. The new functionality enables users to make 1-tap payments using the USDC stablecoin, with crypto transactions now able to look up alphanumeric wallet addresses.

The feature leverages human-readable Farcaster identities to look up addresses or recall ENS spellings. “Our goal is to make it easy to pay people with crypto in an app on your phone,” co-founder Dan Romero said.

The application will use USDC on the Coinbase-built Base Ethereum scaling layer to slash fees and confirmation times. Farcaster’s open protocol allows other ecosystem apps to support additional currencies and chains.

Romero’s vision for Farcaster entails ensuring the success of Warpcast, which serves as the reference app that utilizes the protocol. According to Aun Ventures’ Breck Stodghill, building features that are used by the Warpcast client will ultimately create a viable alternative to Twitter.
