The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA), the bloc's financial watchdog, has raised concerns about the high concentration of crypto trading on a small number of exchanges, with Binance alone accounting for approximately half of the market.

ESMA's comprehensive analysis of crypto trading patterns has revealed that while the euro currency plays a relatively minor role, trading volumes are heavily centralized. Ten exchanges handle roughly 90% of all trades, and Binance, the largest, dominates with over 50% market share.

"We observe that the market concentration among exchanges has increased over time, and that Binance alone accounts for more than 50% of trading volume," ESMA stated in its report.
