President Donald Trump's social media company is buying bitcoin, according to a Politico report.

The company, Trump Media & Technology Group, is the parent firm of the former president's Truth Social platform. Politico reports that President Trump is the controlling shareholder of the publicly traded company.

In a statement Tuesday, the company announced deals with about 50 large investors who will raise $2.5 billion for the company through stock and debt.

“We view Bitcoin as an apex instrument of financial freedom, and now Trump Media will hold cryptocurrency as a crucial part of our assets,” said Devin Nunes, Trump Media’s CEO, in the statement.
