Babylon has announced the launch of its bitcoin (BTC) staking protocol on mainnet, enabling bitcoin holders to participate in staking activities within proof-of-stake (PoS) networks.

According to a press release shared with Bitcoin.com News, the launch marks a significant step in integrating Bitcoin’s security into PoS ecosystems. The protocol will provide bitcoin holders with an opportunity to earn rewards for contributing to the network’s security.

Babylon’s mainnet launch will see the introduction of a staking protocol that enables bitcoin (BTC) holders to lock their assets with a self-custodial script, designed to enhance the security of proof-of-stake (PoS) networks.

The launch will commence with a cap on the staking supply, set at 1,000 bitcoins. Over 200 finality providers, comparable to validators in PoS systems, will support the network.

These providers will be eligible to receive delegations of voting power and can earn commissions from the staking rewards. The mainnet is also integrated with several prominent wallets, including the Binance Web3 Wallet and the Okx Web3 Wallet, to enhance accessibility for users.

This development follows Babylon’s earlier milestones, including the launch of the world’s first trustless bitcoin staking testnet, which reportedly attracted over 100,000 stakers within 48 hours.
