The long-running legal dispute between the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Ripple has finally come to an end.

According to a statement released Friday, the SEC will be returning $75 million of previously escrowed funds to Ripple and the two parties have agreed on a reduced penalty of $50 million.

In a statement, SEC Commissioner Caroline Crenshaw expressed her dissent from the settlement, criticizing it for “a tremendous disservice to the investing public and undermines the court’s role in interpreting our securities laws.”
