HBO’s Satoshi documentary, which aired this week, has sparked widespread discussion and brought renewed mainstream attention to Bitcoin. The documentary’s big reveal was developer Peter Todd, who was named as Satoshi. However, this revelation was met with skepticism.

Gold bug and Bitcoin critic Peter Schiff was not featured in the documentary, despite considering himself “the most well-known Bitcoin critic.” Schiff expressed his frustration at being left out of the production.

However, producer Cullen Hoback explained that there was only so much airtime available for criticism, and Nouriel “Dr. Doom” Roubini was chosen due to his long-standing critique of Bitcoin and his “archival interactions” with key figures.

Schiff was not convinced by this reasoning, arguing that his libertarian stance and claim as the original “Dr. Doom” made him a better choice than Roubini. He also pointed to his proven track record in financial predictions and his early warnings about Celsius co-founder Alex Mashinsky, whom he accused of running a Ponzi scheme before its collapse.

Interestingly, despite making Bitcoin criticism his brand, Schiff shares several common beliefs among Bitcoin investors. Like many in the crypto space, he supports the libertarian idea that free markets are more efficient than state intervention and recognizes the flaws in the fiat money system.
