The U.S. consumer price index (CPI) fell by 0.1% in June, bringing the annual inflation rate to its lowest in over three years. The decline was primarily driven by a decrease in gasoline prices, which dropped by 3.8% over the month.

Critics argued that this move was politically motivated.

Despite the overall decline in CPI, some price categories continued to show inflationary pressures. Shelter costs, a major component of the CPI, rose by 0.2%, indicating ongoing pressures in the housing market.
