There Is No Such Thing as a Healthy Scottish Fold

Aug 25, 2026 at 09:15 pm Pawsitive

Every Scottish Fold alive has a disease in its bones and cartilage. The folded ear is not a feature. It is the symptom. This is the documented history of the breed, built from registry records, veterinary journals, and the genetics literature rather than from repetition. We trace the founder line from a white barn cat found near Coupar Angus in 1961, then show exactly where that paper trail runs out and why the citation everyone passes along does not say what people claim it says. Then the larger problem. In 1975, a three-page bulletin article concluded that only kittens from two folded parents developed skeletal disease. Breeders built a rule on it that still defines responsible breeding today. It took thirty-three years of veterinary case reports to show the conclusion was wrong, and the rule survived the correction anyway. We also correct a claim you will find almost everywhere: the Scottish Fold is not banned in Scotland. No such law exists in the United Kingdom. Real bans do exist, and we go through where. Where the evidence is thin or contested, we say so in the video. #ScottishFold #CatBreeds #CatGenetics #AnimalWelfare #CatHistory #PetHealth #Osteochondrodysplasia #CatFacts #Documentary #BreedingEthics #catstory #unknownfacts #unknown
