The Canton network Global Synchronizer goal is to enable atomic transactions across sovereign blockchains without sacrificing privacy or control. Canton Coin was launched as part of the Global Synchronizer and was designed to overcome enterprise adoption barriers while following regulated financial enterprises. The Global Synchronizer is a decentralized interoperability service using Byzantine Fault Tolerant consensus for message ordering and confirmation. Super Validators operate the core infrastructure, sequence transactions across the network, validate Canton Coin transactions, and take part in the canton network governance. So Canton Coin, is not just a token. It is the economic asset tied to the shared synchronizer infrastructure. The Global Synchronizer says Canton Coin uses a burn to mint equilibrium mechanism. Users pay fees denominated in U.S. dollars, but paid by burning Canton Coin, when they initiate Canton Coin transfers or create a traffic balance. Instead of those fees going toward the central authority, the canton network coin coins are burned and removed from circulation. Canton Network coin Burns are not random. They come from actual usage. If users transfer Canton Coin or create traffic balance to use shared synchronizer infrastructure, Canton Coin can be burned as the fee payment. The Global Synchronizer documentation says validators, super validators, and application providers can mint new Canton Coins in return for their utility contributions. Canton network own website explains it in simpler terms. It says the canton network usage fees are burned, new canton coins can be minted as rewards based on participant activity every ten minutes, and the network aims to issue and burn approximately 2.5 billion coins annually. And the synchronizer fees are denominated in U.S. dollars, while the token price floats based on the current market value. The synchronizer traffic website says synchronizer usage creates operational costs for Super Validators. To help cover those costs, improve incentives for operating Super Validators and a certain free base rate is charged with synchronizer fees paid in Canton Coin. If applications use the Canton network Global Synchronizer heavily, they need traffic capacity. If usage goes beyond the free base level, traffic fees are paid in Canton Coin. It also shows that total burned Canton Coin can be tracked across categories like traffic purchases on the synchronizer, Canton Coin transfers, CNS entries, and fees for creating transfer pre approvals.
