BOIRO. it has it all!!!

Jun 26, 2026 at 06:00 pm About Galicia

Boiro, in the Barbanza region, is a destination where ancient heritage merges with quiet beaches and a living seafaring tradition. 🏛️ From Iron Age forts to stately mansions, passing through hidden waterfalls and sandy areas with protected dunes. In this video we tour the most special corners of Boiro: - Castro de Neixón: one of the oldest forts in Galicia, with an archaeological center that preserves pieces recovered in excavations. - Castro de Achadizo: coastal town from the 6th-7th centuries BC, with remains of homes and a wall. Pre-Roman rotary mills were found here, a finding that demonstrates that this technology was not introduced by the Romans. - Boiro urban area, Cachada park, Barraña promenade, Goiáns mill route,... - Church of San Cristóbal de Abanqueiro and Santa María de Castro: temples with centuries of history. - Pazo de Goiáns (Torre de Goiáns): 16th century maritime manor, founded by the Fandiño Gayoso family. Destroyed during the Irmandiñas Revolts and restored in the 17th century by Domingo de Andrade. On its façade, shields of the Soutomaior, Caamaño, Ulloa or Mendoza families. - Carragueiros Beach: famous for its protected dunes, a unique ecosystem where migratory birds, agricultural fields and the estuary itself coexist. - Playa Jardín/Barraña: the urban sandy area with a 3 km promenade and the possibility of seeing the shellfish harvesters at low tide. - Escarabote Beach (port): the small fishing village where the colorful houses overlook the port and the estuary. - Hermitage of San Ramón de Bealo: small jewel with petroglyphs in its surroundings. - Cadarnoxo Waterfall: an impressive stepped fall of more than 30 meters in length. You can practically get there by car, but the walk following the sound of the river makes it even more magical. - Casota do Páramo: a megalithic monument!!! - Cabo de Cruz: the fishing village with the port and the fish market. Their mussels have Protected Designation of Origin "Mexillón de Galicia". A complete tour of a municipality that breathes ancient history, protected nature and seafaring tradition.
