Let's get to know the works of the outstanding ceramist that we have invited. This is Dean McRaine. His professional training is in family therapy. She began making ceramics to balance the stress of working with dysfunctional families. He sees pottery as a form of play. She lives in Hawaii with her store: LightWave Pottery located in the center of Kapaa, on the island of Kauai, Hawaii, where she works with her best collaborators Renée, who studied art at Indiana University and has been working in ceramics since she was 15. Rondi who has been creating with ceramics for more than 20 years and Sharon who supports them from the continent. Although he has always been very creative, he has not received much formal training in ceramics. He taught himself through magazines, books, and a lot of trial and error. Much of his training as a ceramic artist has been based on trial and error. You are always curious to try a new technique or approach. Even after 30 years making ceramics, he remains curious. and possibly that is why he resorts to: individual firing, manufacturing of oxidation glazes with cone 10, the use of residual vegetable oil to feed his firing and millefiori techniques with colored clays. The intricacies of the types of clay, molding it into the shapes you want, how long you cook it in a kiln etc. The colored clay work you are doing now seems to have unlimited possibilities and you will probably explore it for a long time. Colored clay fascinates him. Years ago she did an initial short workshop on colored clay techniques and knew immediately that she had found "her specialty." For the past 15 years, his main interest has been the vivid colors and rich patterns that can be created with that type of art. Since then he has been rapidly developing his techniques. Colored clay offers unique visual possibilities for color, detail, patterns, image creation and abstract design that are not available in any other ceramic technique. It's psychedelic! . It is like a new form of art, outside the traditional limits of ceramic techniques. He always wants to discover something new. Colored clay allows you to do this. Every new design you create opens up a whole world of possibilities. It was because of this technique that ARTECONTODO contacted him. I still can't quite understand how you can create all these designs and patterns on a sheet of clay, 1.-Prepare Skinner mix Cut diagonal sheets of colors and join them into a rectangle, rolling and folding until the tones blend well. 2.-Form long strip Cut the rectangle in half, overlap the pieces and laminate until you obtain a strip about 5 cm wide. 3.-Fold in a zigzag Fold the strip in successive layers and knead it to form a 15 cm stick, then divide it into three sections. 4.-Crush and join canes Flatten the sections, join them by aligning colors and stretch until you obtain 6 cm pieces, then cut into six parts. 5.-Shape petals Round the sections and wrap them in red clay, stretch up to 20 cm and divide into four diamond-shaped mini canes. 6.-Assemble the flower Attach the four petals to a red cylinder and add five blue triangular sections between them to complete the flower. 7.-Finish floral cane Wrap the piece in blue clay, knead and stretch to obtain a uniform cane with the flower inside. In this same way, you can look for all the patterns or figures you want to assemble large cubes like this one from which you can make these colorful sheets with which you can recreate yourself by making all kinds of articles or works of art. Let's watch the full video several times, share it by giving it likes, and those who want to learn many more techniques subscribe to our ARTECONTODO Channel. Dean's goal as an artist is to create work that is beautiful and uplifting and brings joy to those who see it and he is delighted to give ARTECONTODO Channel subscribers a tour of the workshop and share his techniques. He makes all his ceramics by hand. For him, making art is a recreational occupation. I want you to also enjoy and have fun with my work. In everything he does he seeks to express the beauty and brilliant color of higher dimensional realities.
