Announcing on May 6, 2025, the network's v27 upgrade, guided by ZIP-9 governance, unlocks frictionless development

Announced on May 6, the network’s v27 upgrade, guided by ZIP-9 governance, has achieved full EVM equivalence. This adjustment brings several advantages.
First, it simplifies development significantly. With this upgrade, projects can use standard EVM tools like solc, Foundry, and Hardhat without needing specialized plugins or testing frameworks. This means that dApp creators can now easily transfer their code and testing scripts from the mainnet to ZKsync.
The importance of this change lies in the fact that it enables seamless integration with the broader crypto ecosystem. Developers can quickly deploy their projects on ZKsync after testing them on familiar platforms like Hardhat or Foundry.
Moreover, the new baseline opens the door for further expansions in the future. As ZKsync puts it, "the path is clear for additional expansions. We've been building for the future of Ethereum. More news dropping soon."
This integration also benefits dApp creators, eliminating the need for custom "zkSolc" or "Hardhat ZK." They can now compile, test, and deploy their dApps exactly as they would for standard Ethereum. This translates to faster iteration cycles, less friction, and immediate synergy with the established tooling landscape.
The new EVM Interpreter was approved by ZKsync’s Token Assembly, signaling a crucial step towards a broader vision. As explained in the developer documentation, the goal is to combine the speed and cost advantages of ZKsync with the ease of development on standard Ethereum.
This upgrade, however, is just the first in a series of planned improvements. The entire Elastic Network, which interconnects multiple ZK-based chains, is set to gain EVM equivalence soon.
Keep an eye on this space for further updates.
