XRP Volume Explodes Amidst Crypto Carnage, Surges Past $4 Billion

Apr 04, 2024 at 01:04 am

Amidst a $400 million crypto bloodbath, XRP trading volume has surged 80%. This spike, driven by a 94% liquidation of long positions, has caused stop losses and margin calls, leading to a sharp increase in trading activity and a sudden drop in XRP prices. Additionally, 461 billion SHIB tokens have been transferred to an unknown wallet, possibly Robinhood 2, sparking speculation about potential trading activity or strategic accumulation. Finally, 17,000 BTC have exited Coinbase in the second-largest outflow this week, which could be attributed to institutional purchases or spot ETFs.

XRP Volume Explodes Amidst Crypto Carnage, Surges Past $4 Billion

XRP Volume Soars amidst Crypto Bloodbath, Exceeds $4 Billion

In the midst of a precipitous crypto market downturn that witnessed over $400 million in liquidated positions, XRP trading volume surged by an astounding 80%, exceeding $4 billion on Thursday. CoinGlass data revealed that derivatives alone accounted for a staggering $2.16 billion, while spot markets contributed an additional $1.9 billion to the surge.

This remarkable upswing in XRP activity, however, occurred concurrently with a massive crypto sell-off, wherein 85.5% of the liquidated positions were long, representing bullish bets. The XRP market was particularly hard hit, with a full 94% of futures positions that were liquidated representing long positions, amounting to $5.47 million.

The sudden spike in XRP trading volume coincided with a precipitous decline in the token's price, triggering stop losses and margin calls that forced traders to hastily liquidate their holdings. As a result, the token's trading volume experienced a sharp increase, reflecting heightened market activity amidst significant liquidations and sell-offs.

461 Billion SHIB Transferred to Robinhood Address

On April 1, Wintermute, a leading algorithmic trading firm, made headlines by transferring a staggering 461 billion SHIB tokens to an undisclosed wallet, according to data provided by Whale Alert. Subsequent information from Etherscan revealed that the recipient wallet was identified as "Robinhood 2."

The timing of the transfer, coinciding with a broader market downturn that has seen the value of many major cryptocurrencies plummet, has fueled speculation. Some analysts suggest that the move may indicate anticipation of increased trading activity or strategic accumulation by Robinhood in anticipation of future demand. However, the exact reason for the transfer remains enigmatic.

Following a peak at $0.00003285 on March 28, Shiba Inu has witnessed a steady decline, falling further alongside the broader crypto market in recent days. At the time of writing, SHIB is trading at $0.00002671.

Massive Bitcoin Outflow from Coinbase: Second Largest This Week

CryptoQuant, a leading on-chain analytics firm, has reported a significant outflow of 17,000 BTC from Coinbase. This outflow marks the second largest of the week, following an earlier outflow of 16,800 BTC.

CryptoQuant suggests that this outflow may be attributable to institutional purchases or spot ETFs. Institutional interest in Bitcoin has surged with the introduction of spot ETFs, as these investors typically acquire significant amounts of Bitcoin on exchanges and subsequently transfer them to their own wallets.

The massive outflows coincided with a notable decline in Bitcoin's price, which has plunged to approximately $65,000. This price movement suggests a cooling-off period after recent highs, as traders and investors reassess their positions in the crypto market.

With the market absorbing this substantial outflow, attention will be focused on Bitcoin's price trajectory and Coinbase's future actions. The implications of these significant outflows from Coinbase remain uncertain.
