XRP Could Be the One to Dethrone Bitcoin – Here's How It Might Happen

Could Ripple's XRP overtake Bitcoin? That's the bold question raised in a new video by NCashOfficial, a YouTube channel followed by over 208,000 subscribers.

XRP Could Be the One to Dethrone Bitcoin – Here's How It Might Happen

In a recent video from NCashOfficial, a YouTube channel with over 208,000 subscribers, the possibility of Ripple’s XRP dethroning Bitcoin in the cryptocurrency market was discussed.

While Bitcoin is currently the most valuable cryptocurrency with a market cap of $500 billion, XRP is quickly gaining momentum in a very different way. Instead of hype, XRP is focused on regulation, banks, and tokenized finance.

“Is it possible that XRP could overtake Bitcoin in the cryptocurrency market? We might be witnessing the beginning of a new chapter in the crypto landscape,” the narrator begins the video.

The video highlights how Bitcoin has mostly attracted individual investors who see it as a way to store value, while Ripple's XRP is focused on partnerships with large financial companies and banks to build new financial infrastructure.

"To date, Ripple has signed more than 1,700 confidentiality agreements with financial institutions, and they're working on integrating Ripple's technology," the video explains. "This includes cross-border payments, digital asset custody, and tokenization, showcasing their commitment to long-term institutional use."

According to Ripple President Monica Long, banks are already using Ripple's technology to tokenize real-world assets, with the XRP Ledger serving as the underlying network.

"This isn't just theory; it's happening in practice. For instance, a U.S. bank is currently tokenizing a bond on the XRP Ledger, showcasing the tangible progress being made."

The video also touches upon the regulatory challenges faced by cryptocurrencies. However, XRP has something most tokens don't: partial regulatory clarity in the United States. Following Ripple's legal battle with the SEC, XRP is one of the few assets to have a court ruling stating it's not a security when traded on secondary markets.

This gives XRP a unique edge. While many tokens are still stuck in legal uncertainty, XRP can move ahead with institutional deals and potentially even get listed on regulated platforms, including, possibly, a spot ETF.

"The regulatory monopoly that once favored Bitcoin may be slowly losing ground, paving the way for a new contender to rise," the video suggests.

One of the biggest opportunities for XRP lies in tokenization, the process of bringing real-world assets like stocks, bonds, or real estate onto blockchain networks, which Ripple is making a top priority.

More than 72% of surveyed finance executives plan to tokenize assets in the next three years, and Ripple is building the tools to support that shift. Its network is already working with banks to handle tokenized custody, and the XRP Ledger is being used as a primary infrastructure layer.

Executives like Graham Rodford, CEO of Archax, believe that between $30 trillion and $50 trillion worth of assets could eventually be tokenized, and he expects a large portion of that to move through XRPL.

"If we consider the potential market cap of Bitcoin and XRP, we can put this in perspective. Bitcoin's market cap is currently around $500 billion, while XRP's market cap is about $26 billion. For XRP to overtake Bitcoin, its market cap would need to increase by over 20 times from where it stands today."

The video concludes by saying that for XRP to dethrone Bitcoin, a lot has to go right.

"But if an XRP ETF is approved, if large banks like Bank of America and Citigroup start using Ripple's tech for payments and tokenization, and if U.S. government agencies like the FDIC, Fed, and OCC begin recognizing Ripple's role in finance, then we might see XRP enter a whole new phase of adoption."

The moment one major financial institution jumps in, others may follow, triggering a network effect. That shift could also bring sentiment changes, where the focus in crypto moves from speculation toward real-world utility. And if that happens, XRP could gain ground not just on Ethereum, but on Bitcoin itself.
