Worldcoin (World ID) Services Suspended in Indonesia by Komdigi

Worldcoin (World ID) Services Suspended in Indonesia by Komdigi

Indonesia's Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) has officially suspended the Electronic System Operator Registration Certificate (TDPSE) of Worldcoin and World ID services in the country, following public reports regarding suspicious activities associated with the two platforms.

The decision, announced in an official statement on Sunday, May 4, 2025, was made to "prevent any potential risks to the public."

Komdigi is also summoning two entities allegedly linked to Worldcoin's local operations - PT Terang Bulan Abadi and PT Sandina Abadi Nusantara - to request further clarification regarding a potential violation in digital system operations.

The suspension is in accordance with Government Regulation No. 71 of 2019 and Minister of Communication Regulation No. 10 of 2021, which mandate that all digital service providers must be officially registered and legally accountable for their service in Indonesia.

During the investigation, Komdigi discovered that PT Terang Bulan Abadi was not registered as an Electronic System Operator (PSE) and does not have a TDPSE as mandated by Article 4 paragraph (1) and Article 8 of the Minister of Communication and Informatics Regulation No. 5 of 2020.

Moreover, Worldcoin, which operates under a TDPSE registered to PT Sandina Abadi Nusantara, will be required to provide additional explanation for its activities in the country.

This move follows a period of heightened scrutiny towards Worldcoin, especially concerning its biometric iris-scanning verification process, previously covered by PortalKripto.

Worldcoin positions its iris-based global ID as a solution for authentication in the Web3 era. However, its method of collecting biometric data has raised privacy and transparency issues — especially in developing countries like Indonesia, where many users reportedly lacked full understanding of the risks in exchange for token rewards.

Earlier this week, Worldcoin announced its global expansion and new innovations at an event titled "At Last" in San Francisco on April 30, 2025.

Co-founders Sam Altman and Alex Blania unveiled plans to launch the project in the United States, expand biometric verification using the next-generation Orb device, and roll out strategic partnerships — including the launch of World App 4.0 and a collaboration with Visa to introduce the WorldCard.

The expansion aligns with World's core mission to preserve human trust in the age of AI-generated content.

"We want to ensure that humans remain central in a world increasingly shaped by AI-generated content," said Wafa Taftazani, General Manager of Tools for Humanity Indonesia, the organization behind World, in a statement received by portalkripto.com.

Over the past six months, World's global network has nearly doubled, reaching 26 million users, with 12 million verified — including a significant portion from its recent U.S. launch.

This rapid adoption underscores the growing human need to secure digital identity amid the accelerating influence of AI, explained Wafa.
