Web3 Game "Pixels" Hits 1 Million Daily Users, Breaks Barriers in Blockchain Gaming
May 14, 2024 at 12:05 am
Pixels, a web3 video game, has surpassed 1 million daily active users, outperforming most crypto-based games. This milestone highlights the potential of web3 gaming, exceeding expectations with millions of players engaged in blockchain-based gameplay. While Axie Infinity remains a notable success story, Pixels' achievement suggests a burgeoning interest in crypto gaming, particularly in regions like the Philippines.

Web3 Game "Pixels" Surpasses 1 Million Daily Active Users, Reaching Significant Milestone
New York, USA - The groundbreaking web3 game "Pixels" has achieved a remarkable milestone by surpassing 1 million daily active users, a notable achievement in the nascent sector of blockchain-based gaming. While traditional video games often struggle to maintain tens of thousands of active users daily, "Pixels" has surged ahead with an impressive player base.
"This milestone is a testament to the growing popularity of web3 gaming and the evolving gaming landscape," stated Luke Barwikowski, CEO and Founder of Pixels. However, he emphasized that the true measure of success lies in the ratio between PIXEL tokens spent and distributed, a metric that reflects player engagement and the overall health of the game's economy.
In the past month alone, approximately 4.4 million PIXEL tokens have been spent, amounting to roughly $1.6 million based on current market rates. The PIXEL token currently trades at $0.36, according to CoinGecko.
Blockchain-based gaming is still in its early stages within both the cryptocurrency and gaming industries. Ambitious projects are underway, aiming to develop AAA-quality titles that rival the blockbuster releases of established gaming franchises. However, their success and ability to attract millions of users remain uncertain.
One notable exception in the crypto gaming realm has been "Axie Infinity," which garnered widespread attention and attracted millions of users, particularly in the Philippines. The game provided an opportunity for players to earn cryptocurrency, supplementing their income during the pandemic. However, "Axie Infinity" has since lost some of its popularity following a hack and the broader decline in cryptocurrency prices.
Like "Axie Infinity," "Pixels" operates on the Ronin blockchain. Both games prioritize gameplay features that enable players to earn cryptocurrency rather than focusing heavily on stunning graphics.
Recent data from Token Terminal indicates a steady increase in Ronin's daily active user count, potentially driven in part by the surge in "Pixels" players. An analysis shared by a spokesperson for "Pixels" revealed that out of the 18 million visitors to the game's website in April, 18% originated from the Philippines. Brazil, Thailand, and Indonesia also accounted for significant portions of the traffic.
In February, "Pixels" announced that it had raised $4.8 million in funding, supported by notable investors such as Animoca Brands and Sky Mavis, the company behind "Axie Infinity." This investment provides a solid foundation for the continued development and growth of the "Pixels" ecosystem.
As the web3 gaming landscape evolves, it remains to be seen whether "Pixels" can sustain its impressive user base and achieve long-term success. The game's ability to maintain a healthy economy, foster a thriving community, and adapt to the changing gaming landscape will be key to its continued growth and impact on the industry.
