output: Light toning is visible on the peripheries of this brilliant satiny key date 1921-S Walking Liberty Half Dollar, which is pedigreed to the Ron Stone Collection and is part of the Friar Park Collection of U.S. Coins. It will be sold by PCGS on Sunday, March 15, as part of a sale on the GreatCollections website.

About the Key Date 1921-S Walking Liberty Half Dollar

While the mintage of 548,000 coins is more than the 1921 and 1921-D Half Dollars combined, the 1921-S is one of the biggest condition rarities of the entire series. It is a difficult coin to obtain in About Uncirculated, and especially rare in Mint State. Above the level of the piece being sold on Sunday, the 1921-S becomes extremely difficult to get in high Mint State, with only a few Gems being known to exist.

The average 1921-S Walking Liberty Half has a frosty luster and weak strikes. This example has an appealing frosty luster and a relatively sharp strike for the issue. It was formerly part of the Ron Stone Collection, a high-ranking PCGS Registry Set in the Walking Liberty Half Dollars Basic Set, Circulation Strikes (1916-1947) category.

At the time of publication, the highest of six bids on this 1921-S Walking Liberty Half Dollar is $31,000.
