Volmex Finance Introduces the First Implied Volatility Index for Solana's SOL Token
Sep 04, 2024 at 07:02 pm
The crypto derivatives protocol revealed its new innovation on Tuesday, as a way to measure the expected price fluctuations of the world's fifth-largest cryptocurrency in terms of market value.

A new crypto derivatives protocol, Volmex Finance, has introduced the first implied volatility index for Solana’s (CRYPTO: SOL) SOL token.
What Happened: The index, called the Solana Volatility Implied Volatility Index (SVIV), will measure the expected volatility for the SOL token over the next 14 days.
According to the announcement, traders will be able to use the index to gauge the expected price movements, up or down, for the world’s fifth-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization over the next two weeks.
The SVIV index will provide traders with insights into SOL’s volatility, which could be useful for navigating the often-unpredictable cryptocurrency markets.
Volatility, in financial terms, refers to the degree of price variation over a specific period of time. High volatility means the price of an asset can change significantly over a short period in either direction, while low volatility suggests more stable prices over time.
The index will provide market participants with a better understanding of the potential risks and rewards involved in trading SOL at any given point.
Volmex Finance also plans to launch longer-duration SOL implied volatility indices, including the widely-tracked 30-day gauge, and derivatives linked to these indices.
Why It Matters: The introduction of the SVIV index is expected to impact how SOL is traded, enabling a strategy known as “volatility trading” or “vol trading.”
Traders can use various financial instruments, such as options and futures, that are tied to underlying assets and volatility indices to bet on or hedge against market volatility.
The new SVIV index will provide traders with a deeper level of insight, assisting them in making more informed decisions when trading SOL.
This marks Volmex’s second foray into crypto volatility indices. Perpetual futures tied to Volmex’s Bitcoin implied volatility index (BVIV) and the Ether index (EVIV) have been available on Bitfinex since early April.
These indices, which measure the 30-day expected volatility of Bitcoin and Ethereum, have reportedly attracted the attention of several institutions.
