USDC Stablecoin Now Natively Integrated on zkSync Ethereum Scaling Solution
Apr 12, 2024 at 12:55 am
Stablecoin issuer Circle has announced that the dollar-pegged USDC is now natively available on zkSync, a layer-2 Ethereum (ETH) scaling protocol. The native USDC on zkSync offers advantages such as being regulated, fully reserved, and redeemable 1:1 for US dollars. Institutional customers can mint and redeem USDC through Circle Mint, while existing bridged USDC will be renamed USDC.e.

Circle's USDC Stablecoin Now Natively Integrated on zkSync Ethereum Scaling Solution
In a groundbreaking move that further enhances the utility and accessibility of its stablecoin, Circle has announced the native integration of USDC on the Ethereum (ETH) layer-2 scaling protocol zkSync. This significant development marks a major step forward for Circle and underscores its commitment to providing robust and efficient financial infrastructure for the Web3 ecosystem.
The integration of native USDC on zkSync offers several key advantages over bridged USDC previously available on the platform. Foremost, it provides the assurance of being fully backed by Circle, ensuring its stability and reliability. Additionally, it eliminates the need for third-party bridges, streamlining the minting and redemption processes through Circle Mint. This integration simplifies the integration of USDC into existing applications, further fostering its adoption and usage.
To facilitate the transition, zkSync has renamed the previously bridged USDC to USDC.e, while the native USDC will retain its original symbol. Over time, native USDC will gradually replace the circulating supply of USDC.e, enabling users and institutions to seamlessly swap between the two forms of USDC on their preferred decentralized exchanges (DEXs).
Third-party bridges and centralized exchanges will continue to support USDC deposits and withdrawals, while the native zkSync bridge will exclusively facilitate USDC and USDC.e withdrawals.
With this integration, USDC now boasts support on 16 blockchain networks, solidifying its position as one of the most widely adopted stablecoins in the cryptocurrency market.
Circle anticipates widespread adoption of native USDC on zkSync within the ecosystem's leading applications and DeFi protocols. This includes automated market maker (AMM) exchange Koi Finance, lending platform ZeroLend, and the decentralized exchange SyncSwap. These integrations will empower users to leverage USDC for seamless payments, efficient trading, and flexible lending.
Businesses and institutions can seamlessly access USDC on zkSync through Circle Mint and its APIs, providing convenient on-ramps and off-ramps for fiat currency conversions. Circle Mint further simplifies USDC transfers between supported chains, eliminating the complexities and delays associated with third-party bridging.
This native integration is a testament to Circle's unwavering commitment to innovation and the development of robust financial infrastructure for Web3. By providing a secure, scalable, and cost-effective solution for USDC transactions, Circle empowers businesses, institutions, and individuals to fully harness the transformative potential of digital finance. As the cryptocurrency industry continues to evolve, Circle remains at the forefront of fostering mass adoption and driving the future of Web3 finance.
