Twitch Star Amouranth Robbed at Gunpoint, Attackers Demanded Bitcoin
Mar 03, 2025 at 10:28 pm
The popular online streamer Kaitlyn Siragusa, known as Amouranth, suffered a violent home invasion in Houston on March 2

Popular online streamer Kaitlyn Siragusa, known as Amouranth, has shared a terrifying update on her X (formerly Twitter) account about being robbed at gunpoint in Houston on March 2. The perpetrators demanded bitcoin.
"I'm being too robbed at gunpoint. I believe I shot one of them. They wanted crypto is what they were yelling they pulled me out of bed," Amourgoth shared.
The Kick streamer and adult content creator later explained why she chose to tweet instead of calling emergency services, Daily Star reported. "Was at gun point they gave me phone and said log in with gun to my head and I tweeted because calling would be a death sentence," she wrote.
This recent incident follows a surge in reports of crypto investors being targeted by criminals. According to a recent article by Jameson Lopp, Chief Security Officer at CASA, the rise in crypto robberies can be attributed to the increasing value of digital assets and criminals' growing awareness of crypto wealth.
"The simplest and most impactful way to steal large sums of crypto is by going to the source: the holder's own private keys," Lopp explained.
However, security experts advise against making risky moves like showing off large crypto balances online. With bitcoin adoption expanding, public displays of wealth on social media have become riskier than ever. In late 2024, Amouranth posted a screenshot of a Coinbase account showing over $20 million in BTC and ETH, along with the message, "Do I sell or hold my BTC?" This public display likely contributed to her being targeted.
This post by Amouranth on X showcases her BTC and ETH holdings.
Moreover, the report by Autonomous Security, titled "The New Era of Financial Crime," highlights the shift in criminal tactics and a renewed interest in BTC and crypto investors. Unlike traditional financial crimes involving bank accounts, real estate or any other traditional wealth behicle, crypto theft allows criminals to transfer funds instantly, bypassing trusted third parties.
"As bitcoin continues to gain mainstream attention, crypto security is more crucial than ever," the Autonomous Security report concludes.
Earlier this year, we reported on a case where Ledger Chief Executive Officer, David Balland was targeted by hackers who stole $1 billion in crypto from investors. As bitcoin and crypto continue to be hot topics, it seems that criminals are also getting involved in new and inventive ways to steal from people.
