Is Trump the Best Crypto Candidate?

Former President Donald Trump made history at Bitcoin Conference 2024 in Nashville on Saturday when he became the first U.S. president to endorse Bitcoin (BTC) in a speech.

Trump, who is widely expected to announce his 2024 presidential bid in the coming weeks, used his appearance at the crypto event to highlight his administration's role in advancing digital assets.

In his speech, Trump outlined several key proposals related to Bitcoin, including the establishment of a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve and the appointment of a crypto czar within the U.S. government.

"We're going to create a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve to protect our currency from manipulation and foreign powers," Trump said. "And we're going to appoint a crypto czar within the U.S. government to coordinate all efforts related to digital assets."

Trump also emphasized the importance of keeping Bitcoin technology and development in the United States, while also encouraging other countries to participate.

"We want places like China to be successful with Bitcoin, but we want America to be the most successful," he said. "We created Bitcoin. It was created right here in the good old U.S.A."

Trump's appearance at the Bitcoin Conference 2024 was highly anticipated, and his speech was met with enthusiasm by the crowd.

The event, which was organized by BTC Inc, featured several speakers from the crypto industry, including Robert Kennedy Jr. and Vivek Ramaswamy, who are both candidates for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.

Kennedy, who spoke on Friday, highlighted the role of crypto in achieving monetary freedom and sovereignty. He also pledged to purchase $4 million in BTC if elected president.

"The United States holds 19% of global gold reserves, I don’t see why we can’t hold the same," Kennedy said. "Bitcoin is the perfect currency."

Ramaswamy, who spoke on Saturday before Trump, emphasized the need for crypto literacy among policymakers and highlighted his experience in the crypto space.

"I'm the only candidate running for president who actually owned Bitcoin before entering politics," Ramaswamy said. "And I'm the only candidate who has a plan to put crypto on sound legal footing."

The Bitcoin Conference 2024 is taking place at the Music City Center in Nashville, Tennessee, from March 31 to April 2.

The event features speakers, panels, workshops and vendor showcases related to Bitcoin, crypto, Web3, NFTs, DeFi, mining and more.

Among the speakers scheduled to appear at the conference are Robert Kennedy Jr., Vivek Ramaswamy, Dennis Rodman, Saifedean Ammous, Michael Saylor, CZ, Brock Pierce, Anthony Scaramucci, Gary Gensler, Cynthia Lummis, Ted Cruz, Tom Emmer, Warren Davidson, Patrick McHenry, Maxine Waters, Rashida Tlaib, Ayanna Pressley, Cory Booker, Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders and Elon Musk (invited).

The conference will also feature a performance by Rodman and Ammous' UnCommunist Manifesto play.

Proceeds from the event will go to the Bitcoin Legal Defense Fund, a nonprofit organization that provides legal assistance to Bitcoin developers.
