Alpaca Finance, a once-prominent player in the DeFi ecosystem, has officially announced it will begin shutting down all of its operations.

Popular DeFi protocol Alpaca Finance is shutting down after a run of several years, the protocol announced on Thursday.
The protocol, which was one of the top protocols on the BNB Chain, will be closing down all of its services and winding down its operations in the coming months.
“After extensive internal deliberation and a thorough evaluation of possible paths forward, the Alpaca Finance team has made the incredibly difficult decision to begin shutting down all of the protocol’s services and wind down its operations,” the team wrote in a statement.
“This step is being taken to safeguard our community and ensure a graceful and secure wind-down of the protocol in the best interest of all stakeholders.”
Alpaca Finance was one of the leading protocols on the BNB Chain, and helped to define the leveraged yield farming strategy that was used during the early days of DeFi.
The protocol was known for its strong community involvement, which the team thanked in its final message.
“We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have served such a vibrant and supportive community. Your presence and contributions have been instrumental in every milestone we achieved,” the team wrote.
“We would like to thank each and every one of you for believing in us, farming with us, and sticking with us through the highs and lows. It’s been an honor.”
Any users with questions about the wind-down process are advised to contact the Alpaca Finance team directly, who will be sharing further updates through their usual communication channels.
