Toncoin Booms on Telegram as Platform Embraces Crypto
Apr 16, 2024 at 06:44 pm
A Toncoin (TTON)-based economy is taking root within Telegram, aided by the integration of an ad revenue-sharing system that exclusively rewards channel owners in TON. This integration has contributed to TON outperforming the broader crypto market, with a 15% surge this month despite the decline in Bitcoin and the CoinDesk 20 Index. Open interest in TON has also increased, indicating an influx of capital and confirming the uptrend.

Toncoin Economy Flourishes within Telegram's Messaging Platform
Amidst a volatile cryptocurrency market, Toncoin (TTON) has emerged as a notable outperformer, showcasing a 15% surge this month. In contrast, the leading cryptocurrency by market value, Bitcoin (BTC), has faced an 11% decline, while the broader market benchmark, the CoinDesk 20 Index, has dropped by 16% during the same period.
Open interest for TON, which measures the dollar value invested in perpetual futures contracts for the cryptocurrency, has experienced a significant rise of over 17% to $160 million. Notably, open interest briefly surpassed $200 million, reflecting an influx of new capital and confirming the ongoing uptrend.
The remarkable performance of Toncoin is attributed to its increasing adoption and integration within Telegram, a popular messaging application with over 800 million active users. In February, Telegram introduced an advertising revenue-sharing mechanism that exclusively compensates channel owners in TON. Owners of public channels with at least 1,000 subscribers are entitled to receive 50% of the revenue generated from advertising displayed within their channels.
"Telegram's ad platform leverages the principles of Web3 by accepting only Toncoin for payment," stated Justin Hyun, Director of Investments at TON Foundation. "The move empowers channel owners to distribute Toncoin to their audiences, enhancing awareness of TON's ecosystem and decentralizing the token supply to Telegram's esteemed creators."
Furthermore, last week, TON Foundation announced a partnership with HashKey Group, the parent entity of the licensed Hong Kong-based cryptocurrency exchange. This collaboration aims to facilitate seamless fiat-to-cryptocurrency conversions for wallet users in the Asia Pacific region.
Hyun emphasized the Open League program, launched on April 1st, as a key driver in attracting users onto the TON blockchain. The program incentivizes user participation in ecosystem development through rewards such as quests, airdrops, and liquidity pools on decentralized exchanges.
"The focus on developers is crucial for the future of cryptocurrency adoption," Hyun explained. "TON represents the potential for mass adoption of Web3 technologies, mirroring the impact that Apple's Mac had on personal computing. Our goal is not to put a computer in every home but to bring cryptocurrency to everyone's pocket."
The Open League program seeks to bring millions of Telegram users onto the TON blockchain, positioning it as the hub for consumer products and fostering a self-reinforcing ecosystem for Ton-based projects. The league's pilot season has already yielded a 47% increase in daily active wallets and a 244% surge in the dollar value of cryptocurrency assets held within the TON ecosystem.
Overall, the thriving Toncoin economy within Telegram's messaging platform, coupled with the initiatives undertaken by TON Foundation, underpins the cryptocurrency's recent outperformance and its potential for continued growth within the broader cryptocurrency landscape.
