President Donald Trump hosted a private dinner Thursday evening with buyers of his meme coin at his golf course in Bedminster, New Jersey.
The event, which was supposed to begin at 6:30 p.m. but ultimately started around 7:15 p.m., drew a quirky and eclectic mix. Independent traders mingled with crypto executives, devoted Trump supporters, and even some professional athletes.
Former NBA star Lamar Odom stood out in the crowd. A few attendees wore Bitcoin-orange bowties, while others showed off flashy gold Trump sneakers.
One independent crypto trader, who hadn’t originally planned on attending the dinner, had set their sights on profiting from a potential price increase in the TRUMP token triggered by the upcoming competition.
However, with the trade currently in the red, they decided to make the most of the situation and enjoy the upscale dinner instead.
Trump is said to have made a typically meandering and off-topic speech, which insiders say ran for about 25 minutes. Eventually, he addressed the topic of cryptocurrency.
“I want to thank you all for coming. It’s great to see so many familiar faces. We had a great rally yesterday, and it’s fantastic to be back in Bedminster. We’re winning, winning, winning. They say we’re losing, but we’re winning. We’re winning big league. Nobody wins like Trump. We’re going to make America great again, again. We’re going to build that wall, and we’re going to drain the swamp, and we’re going to round up the MS-13 gang members. We’re going to get it done. And we’re going to have the best cryptocurrency. We’re going to make it huge. It’s going to be the best coin in the world, maybe better than Bitcoin. We’ll see. But we’re going to make it great. It’s going to be the Trump coin, and it’s going to be fantastic.”
The cryptocurrency was a hot topic among the guests, with many engaging in lively discussions about their favorite tokens and trading strategies.
“It’s unreal. I’m having the best time. I wish I could come to more Trump events,” one guest remarked.
According to a report by WIRED, Trump's food was not a hit with at least one guest.25-year-old TikTok prankster Nicholas Pinto, who was among the guests at President Donald Trump's exclusive dinner for buyers of his meme coin Thursday, was unimpressed by the event.
“The worst food I’ve ever had at a Trump golf course. The only good thing was bread and butter," Pinto told WIRED.
Trump reportedly left the event immediately after his speech. He departed the venue in a golf cart bound for his helicopter, per the WIRED report. “Trump could have at least given the top people their watches himself," Pinto said.
According to the report, guests at the dinner were served a meal of burrata and tomato salad, veal Milanese, and ricotta cake.
"It wasn't bad, but I wasn't expecting it to be this bland," said one guest, who had traveled from California specifically for the event.
"I'm a little disappointed that Trump didn't stay to mingle more with the guests. I had some interesting questions for him about his cryptocurrency plans."
Despite the lackluster food and Trump's early departure, guests seemed to be in high spirits throughout the evening.
"This is truly once-in-a-lifetime experience," said another guest, who had bought TRUMP tokens in the hopes of profiting from a potential price increase during the event.
"I'm not sure if I'll be able to sell my tokens at a profit yet, but at least I got to enjoy a delicious meal and meet some fellow Trump supporters."
The private dinner was part of Trump's efforts to capitalize on his popularity in the crypto community.
Earlier this week, Democratic lawmakers strongly criticized the president ahead of the dinner.
“Donald Trump’s dinner is an orgy of corruption,” Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) said Thursday at a press conference. “That’s what this is all about. We are here today to talk about exactly one topic: corruption, corruption in its ugliest form," she added.
“Donald Trump is using the presidency of the United States to make himself richer through crypto, and he’s doing it right out there in plain sight.
“The president is not above the law. Not even Donald Trump can break the law and get away with it. But, he's certainly trying.”
