Tezos to host a community call on May 22nd at 13:30 UTC to present the Rio protocol, the network’s 18th upgrade.
May 22, 2025 at 03:18 am
Nomadic Labs representative Yann Régis-Gianas is expected to outline the technical enhancements proposed in this forthcoming update.
output:
A community call to present the Rio protocol, the 18th upgrade of the Tezos network, will be held on May 22nd at 13:30 UTC.
Coming after the successful Montreal upgrade in March, this forthcoming update to the Tezos blockchain will introduce technical enhancements to the network, explained Nomadic Labs’ Yann Régis-Gianas.
“Join us tomorrow, May 22nd at 13:30 UTC for a community call to present the Rio protocol, the 18th upgrade of the Tezos network. We'll be discussing the technical enhancements proposed in this forthcoming update to the network.
See you there! 🌐🔗”
The post adds: “We are applying for a grant from the Interchain Foundation to build a new interoperability module for the Tezos blockchain. This module will allow for seamless integration with other blockchain networks, fostering a more interconnected and collaborative Web3 ecosystem.”
In March, the Montreal upgrade brought several changes to the Tezos network, including a reduction in baking and endorsement times, an increase in the maximum block size, and the introduction of a new smart contract language.
The baking and endorsement times were reduced from 60 to 32 slots, while the maximum block size was increased from 16KB to 32KB. This will allow for more transactions to be processed during periods of high activity.
The programming language used for smart contracts on Tezos was also changed from Michelson to Jsoun, which is a more efficient and versatile language. This will allow for more complex and sophisticated smart contracts to be deployed on the Tezos network.
Moreover, the minimum amount of Tezos required to become a baker or a delegate was reduced from 8,000 Tez to 6,000 Tez. This will make it easier for smaller cryptocurrency holders to participate in the baking and delegation process.
Finally, the Montreal upgrade also saw the introduction of a new interoperability module, which will allow the Tezos blockchain to interact with other blockchain networks. This will open up new possibilities for cross-chain applications and services.
