Tether Dominance (USDT.D) Says Bitcoin (BTC) Is Going Down
Oct 26, 2024 at 11:40 pm
Tether Dominance's decline ended in March 2024. If we look at the chart before this date, all we have is bearish action, lower highs and lower lows.

Bitcoin’s recent price rally may be coming to an end, at least according to one technical indicator.
In a recent tweet, X post contributor Alan Santana highlighted the rising market dominance of Tether (USDT) as a potential signpost for the upcoming bearish trend in the BTC price.

Tether Dominance, an indicator that measures the market capitalization of USDT relative to other cryptocurrencies, had been in a downtrend for most of Q1 2024, displaying a series of lower lows and lower highs. However, this trend appeared to shift dramatically in March 2024, forming a rounded bottom on the price chart, which could indicate a potential rebound in USDT.D.
Tether's Impact on Bitcoin
Recent price action has seen Tether organize itself within a symmetrical range, bound by an upward sloping trendline with higher volumes on the bullish side. Each time USDT.D approaches the lower boundary of this channel, the asset tends to bounce from this level, coinciding with an upward move in the BTC price, showcasing an inverse relationship between the two assets.
The upward movement of USDT Dominance in the second half of October has reinforced this tendency, leading to the assumption that the recent bullishness in Bitcoin may be short-lived. Some traders see this as a sign of flight to quality, a trend that usually precedes a return of volatility in Bitcoin.
Tether has risen in prominence as a point of reference within the crypto market, particularly during periods of volatility. When USDT.D rises, it could be a sign that investors are rotating into safer assets, which could be bearish for Bitcoin in the coming sessions.
Tether's Growing Market Influence
The recent bullishness in USDT also serves as a point of interest for Bitcoin investors to pay close attention to market conditions, as the two assets tend to move in opposite directions prior to major shifts. In this vein, the crypto market is also watching closely at USDT.D as a potential indicator of what may come next for Bitcoin.
Given that Tether is the dominant force in the market and its rising market share is a warning sign for those with exposure to Bitcoin, this development may provide some insight into where BTC is headed. Hence, market participants are advised to pay attention in the coming days.
