Synthetix Network Token Governance Call Set for April 24th
Apr 21, 2024 at 03:45 am
Synthetix Network Token (SNX) is preparing for a community governance call on April 24th, targeting the launch of Synthetix v3.0 and Perps v3.0 on Base, as well as the migration of L1 Staking to v3.0 and the eventual deprecation of Spot Synth.

Synthetix Network Token to Hold Governance Call on April 24th
The Synthetix Network Token (SNX) community will be holding a governance call on April 24th, 2023, at 9 pm UTC. The primary agenda of the call will focus on key developments within the Synthetix ecosystem, including the forthcoming launch of Synthetix v3.0 and Perps v3.0 on the Base protocol, the integration of Perps v3.0 on the Ethereum mainnet, the migration of L1 Staking to v3.0, and the deprecation and migration of Spot Synth.
Synthetix Protocol: Overview and Functionality
The Synthetix protocol operates on the Ethereum blockchain, enabling the creation of synthetic assets, known as "Synths." These Synths are effectively tokens that represent the value of real-world assets, encompassing cryptocurrencies, commodities, fiat currencies, and more. Through Synths, traders gain exposure to these assets without the necessity of direct ownership.
Synthetix leverages decentralized price oracles to ensure the accurate tracking of underlying asset prices. Unlike stablecoins, Synths are not directly backed by reserves of the assets they represent; instead, they rely on on-chain mechanisms and smart contracts to maintain their value. Ownership of a Synth does not confer ownership of the underlying asset; it solely provides exposure to its price fluctuations.
The interoperability of Synths as ERC-20 tokens allows for their seamless integration into other decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols, facilitating liquidity provision and trading.
Role of SNX Token
The Synthetix Network Token (SNX) is a pivotal component of the Synthetix protocol, serving as the primary collateral used for minting Synths. Ethereum (ETHUSD) also serves as an accepted collateral asset. To ensure the stability of the system, Synthetix operates on an overcollateralization principle, whereby each Synth represents a value lower than the collateral backing it.
To maintain the desired collateralization ratio, as determined by governance, stakers engage in minting or burning Synths or adding additional collateral. These actions are crucial for stakers to continue accruing staking rewards.
Governance Call Agenda
The upcoming governance call will cover a range of topics, including:
- Launch of Synthetix v3.0 and Perps v3.0 on Base
- Integration of Perps v3.0 on the Ethereum mainnet
- Migration of L1 Staking to v3.0
- Deprecation and migration of Spot Synth
The call will provide the community with an opportunity to engage in discussions, ask questions, and make proposals regarding these developments. To participate in the call, community members are encouraged to register and join via the provided link.
The Synthetix protocol continues to evolve and innovate, offering users access to a wide range of synthetic assets and fostering the growth of the DeFi ecosystem. The upcoming governance call will undoubtedly shape the future of the protocol and provide valuable insights into its strategic direction.
