With the service, users can deposit native BTC into Bitlayer, where it will be credited as an equivalent value in YBTC on the Sui chain. This synthetic asset fully mirrors the price of BTC, offering a 1:1 linkage for efficient cross-chain interaction.

On Sui, YBTC will be available for typical DeFi use cases like staking, lending, and decentralized exchange (DEX) liquidity provision.

Bitlayer’s documentation explains that its BitVM Bridge technology is capable of transferring any value type (e.g., ETH, ERC20 tokens) across chains. It uses a light client proof-based mechanism to mitigate intermediate risks.

The integration comes after Bitlayer announced the addition of more Bitcoin (BTC) to its liquidity pool. More than 587 BTC have been added since February 2025, which pushes the TVL at the protocol to over 10%.
