Sui Network Invests $10M in Upgraded Security Measures Following Cetus Exploit

May 27, 2025 at 07:17 am

This move follows a $223 million exploit on Cetus Protocol, a decentralized exchange built on the Sui platform. The network aims to restore trust by supporting

Cetus Protocol, a decentralized exchange built on the Sui platform, has been exploited for an estimated $223 million. The exploit targeted a vulnerability in the AMM logic, which led to an arithmetic overflow. This, in turn, granted the exploiter the ability to withdraw any asset they desired.

Following the exploit, which saw about $162 million in user funds get frozen by Sui validators and an estimated $60 million in ether get siphoned to a centralized exchange, the broader Sui Network has announced an initiative to invest an additional $10 million in strengthening the security across its blockchain ecosystem.

“We’re kicking this off by committing to spend an additional $10M on security initiatives. These funds will be spent on audits, bug bounty programs, formal verification, and other ways to harden Sui — we’ll figure out the details in collaboration with our developer community.”

This new initiative will see the team at Sui invest in critical areas such as:

* Deeper Code Audits: To identify and mitigate vulnerabilities in a more comprehensive manner.

* Advanced Formal Verification: Focusing on high-risk dApps and infrastructure components.

* Enhanced Bug Bounty Programs: To encourage early detection of vulnerabilities.

* Collaborative Ecosystem Review: Engaging developers in identifying and securing key libraries.

These actions aim to shift the responsibility from platform-only to shared accountability among developers for application-level security.

The $10 million fund will also support:

* Verified Open-Source Libraries: To promote best practices and code reuse.

* Security Tooling and Education: Equipping developers with the knowledge and tools to build safer dApps.

Crucially, the network is shifting focus to long-term resilience. As new applications are built on Sui, the goal is to ensure their robust integration into the broader ecosystem.

This incident is pivotal for Paymonti Impact to quickly mobilize and maximize efforts to mitigate the exploit’s impact. It showcases the importance of community trust and application-level security, which will be crucial for the long-term success of the Sui ecosystem.
