Starknet Integrates Bitcoin's Lightning Network, Enabling STRK Payments
Mar 14, 2025 at 01:00 am
Starknet continues to solidify its role as one of the most innovative solutions in blockchain. Now, users of this scaling network can make payments via Bitcoin's Lightning Network using STRK

Starknet, the StarkWare-powered Layer 2 scaling network, is continuing to introduce unique solutions to the crypto space. Now, users of this network can make payments via Bitcoin’s Lightning Network using STRK, without needing to hold BTC or set up a Lightning wallet.
This integration is possible thanks to Braavos wallet’s support for both Starknet and Lightning Network, along with the non-custodial Atomiq bridge that enables real-time conversion from STRK to BTC.
At any store that accepts Lightning payments, the user scans the QR code with the Braavos wallet and pays with STRK. Then, Atomiq handles the instant conversion, and the merchant receives BTC immediately.
This solution is designed to provide a seamless payment experience within the Braavos app, eliminating the extra steps usually needed to manage Bitcoin or Lightning Network.
Aiming to make Bitcoin an efficient and accessible payment system again, Starknet's goal is to bring back the original vision of Bitcoin as a peer-to-peer electronic cash system.
While Lightning Network already allowed fast and low-cost Bitcoin payments, it required users to set up channels, fund their wallets, and manage liquidity. Now, with Braavos’ solution, any Starknet user can instantly pay at any Lightning-enabled merchant without friction, using only STRK.
This integration also provides STRK with tangible utility within the payment ecosystem, expanding the possibilities beyond the standard ETH-STRK conversions.
Despite Bitcoin's status as the largest cryptocurrency and its potential for payments, its adoption as a payment method has been limited due to technical and usability challenges.
However, this initiative showcases how Layer 2 solutions like Starknet are playing a key role in Bitcoin's evolution, moving beyond just being a store of value to becoming more useful for financial purposes.
As more users and merchants adopt this system, Bitcoin will reclaim its original purpose as an efficient digital currency, and Starknet will further cement its position as the ideal bridge to scale crypto adoption.
