Standard Chartered Forecasts $2,775 BNB Price by 2028
May 07, 2025 at 11:02 pm
The price of the BNB token, the native asset of Binance's BNB Chain ecosystem, is in the spotlight once again following two major developments: a bold price forecast from global banking giant Standard Chartered and the first-ever filing for a U.S. spot BNB ETF by asset manager VanEck. These moves suggest rising institutional interest in BNB and its evolving role in the broader cryptocurrency market.
Standard Chartered has initiated formal coverage of Binance's BNB token with a headline-grabbing prediction: the bank believes BNB could surge to $2,775 by the end of 2028, implying a gain of over 360% from current prices near $600.
In a report published Tuesday, Geoffrey Kendrick, Standard Chartered's Global Head of Digital Assets Research, described BNB as a "benchmark-like" crypto asset. He noted that since May 2021, BNB has closely mirrored the performance and volatility of a simple unweighted basket of Bitcoin and Ethereum. This historical price correlation is central to the bank's forecast, which assumes the relationship will continue through 2028.
Despite its relatively smaller market cap and lower real-term returns compared to BTC and ETH, Kendrick highlighted BNB's deflationary tokenomics and strong integration with Binance's centralized exchange as key value drivers. Users of the Binance platform enjoy trading fee discounts for holding BNB, providing consistent demand for the token.
Kendrick also highlighted the centralized nature of BNB Chain, Binance's Layer 1 blockchain, which uses a "proof of staked authority" (PoSA) consensus mechanism. This model selects only 45 validators every 24 hours, in stark contrast to Ethereum's highly decentralized network of over a million validators.
While the BNB Chain has experienced relatively low developer activity since the 2021 DeFi boom, Kendrick pointed to recent upgrades—like the Pascal hard fork and the upcoming Maxwell upgrade—as potential catalysts for renewed developer interest.
Still, BNB Chain remains active thanks to its native DEX, PancakeSwap, and other utility-based applications that leverage its deep integration with Binance. Kendrick also noted that BNB trades at a premium on Standard Chartered's valuation metrics for smart contract platforms, thanks to its deflationary supply model and token burn mechanisms.
In a landmark development for institutional crypto adoption, VanEck has officially filed an S-1 form with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to launch the first-ever spot BNB ETF in the United States. This move positions VanEck as the first U.S. asset manager to seek regulated exposure to BNB via an ETF product.
While BNB already trades in the form of an exchange-traded product in Europe (notably via the 21Shares Binance BNB ETP), VanEck's U.S. filing could be a pivotal step toward mainstream BNB investment for American investors.
The proposed ETF, according to the S-1 filing, may also earn staking rewards or income on its BNB holdings — an attractive proposition for yield-seeking institutions.
This filing comes amid a wave of altcoin ETF applications, with more than 70 currently awaiting regulatory review. The evolving stance of the SEC appears to be opening the door to more diversified crypto-based investment vehicles.
While Standard Chartered is decidedly bullish on BNB's price outlook, the CoinCodex algorithmic BNB price prediction presents a more conservative view. According to CoinCodex models, BNB is expected to approach the $1,000 mark by 2030 — an impressive gain from current levels, but far below the $2,775 target set by Kendrick and his team.
The platform's price prediction model continues to rank BNB among the top crypto assets in terms of long-term viability but remains cautious about short- to mid-term overperformance relative to major peers like Bitcoin and Ethereum.
