Stader Labs Unveils Phase 2 of ETHx Tokenomics with Innovative SD Utility Pool

Apr 03, 2024 at 01:57 am

Stader Labs introduces Phase 2 of its tokenomics with the launch of SD Utility Pool, a novel product connecting SD token holders with the ETHx ecosystem. The Pool enables SD holders to contribute to Ethereum decentralization, earning rewards for supporting permissionless node operators. By integrating SD with ETHx, Stader aims to enhance the utility and value accrual for SD holders, fueling a virtuous cycle that benefits both the token and the Ethereum network.

Stader Labs Unveils Phase 2 of ETHx Tokenomics with Launch of SD Utility Pool

Stader Labs, a leading provider of liquid staking solutions, has embarked on the second phase of its ETHx tokenomics strategy with the introduction of the SD Utility Pool. This strategic initiative aims to integrate the protocol token, SD, more seamlessly into the Ethereum ecosystem, offering heightened utility to holders and enabling them to contribute to the burgeoning ETHx business.

Background: Stader Labs and ETHx

Stader Labs has established itself as a prominent liquid staking solutions provider, surpassing $750 million in total value locked (TVL) across major EVM chains, including Ethereum, Polygon, and Binance Smart Chain. In July 2023, Stader launched ETHx on Ethereum, introducing a low bonding requirement of just 4 ETH (plus 0.4 ETH worth of SD) per validator. This significantly reduced the capital outlay for node operators, resulting in 85% lower costs and 42% higher rewards compared to solo staking. The ETHx product gained traction within the community, attracting 250 node operators who added over 4,100 validators since its inception.

SD Utility Pool: Empowering SD Holders in ETH Decentralization

With the SD Utility Pool, Stader Labs has embarked on the next stage of its Ethereum decentralization journey by inviting SD holders to participate in the ETHx space. The Pool represents an innovative concept within the Ethereum liquid staking (LST) realm, rewarding protocol token holders for their contributions to Ethereum's decentralization by supporting permissionless node operators. Holders can stake any desired amount of SD to the Pool, while node operators can leverage it to meet the protocol token requirements for their validators. Operators pay a utilization fee that contributes to the substantial rewards (over 40%) that early delegators stand to receive.

Synergistic Growth for SD and ETHx

The SD Utility Pool is anticipated to play a crucial role in driving the next growth cycle for SD holders. As more SD becomes locked by permissionless ETHx node operators, the value of SD is expected to appreciate. This will enable higher incentives for ETHx users via SD, fueling demand for ETHx. The increased demand will subsequently bolster ETHx TVL, creating greater demand for SD in the utility pool. This virtuous cycle will ultimately benefit SD holders.

Early Success and Positive Response

The SD Utility Pool has garnered a strong positive response, with over 1.5 million SD already delegated within two weeks of its launch. This, combined with the SD previously bonded by node operators, represents approximately 10% of the circulating supply. Stader Labs has also announced additional emissions from the protocol treasury to incentivize early delegators with rewards exceeding 40%.

Conclusion: Stader Labs' Commitment to Innovation and Ethereum Decentralization

Stader Labs' Utility Pool marks a significant breakthrough, amplifying Ethereum decentralization while introducing a novel approach to integrating genuine use cases into protocol tokens. This development highlights Stader Labs' unwavering commitment to driving innovation and advancing the decentralized finance (DeFi) landscape.
