Solana Network Gets Restored with Anza's Upcoming Fixes

Apr 07, 2024 at 01:58 am

Anza Network is implementing updates to address the recent congestion on the Solana blockchain. Collaborating with contributors, Anza has identified the root cause and evaluated potential fixes to be released next week. The congestion, caused by QUIC implementation issues and Agave validator client behavior, has triggered transaction delays and failures for Solana users, prompting the urgency of these measures as part of ongoing improvements to enhance network efficiency.

Solana Network Gets Restored with Anza's Upcoming Fixes

Solana Network Congestion: Anza Prepares Rollout of Fixes

April 6, 2024

Anza Network, a leading software development firm specializing in the Solana blockchain, has announced plans to release a series of updates aimed at resolving the recent network congestion issues that have plagued the platform.

"Significant progress has been made in overcoming the current congestion challenges," Anza confirmed in a statement, adding that the updates are expected to begin rolling out next week. "We have analyzed the root cause and evaluated several potential changes."

The most recent congestion incident, which occurred on April 5, marked the second such occurrence within a 48-hour span, causing significant transaction delays and failures for Solana users. Anza attributed the congestion to a combination of issues with the QUIC implementation and the behavior of the Agave validator client.

Anza engineers, in collaboration with other core contributors, are actively working to diagnose and address the bottlenecks that have caused the congestion. The upcoming updates are part of a broader series of improvements scheduled for the coming months to enhance the network's efficiency.

The urgency of the issue was underscored by data from Dune Analytics, which revealed a 75% failure rate for non-vote transactions on Solana on April 4, amidst a surge in network activity attributed to the growing popularity of meme coins.

The high failure rate has sparked concern within the Solana community, with many expressing dissatisfaction over the deteriorating service quality. However, some industry experts have suggested that the problem may be exacerbated by "bot spam" rather than an inherent instability in the network that affects genuine user transactions.

Andre Cronje, the creator of the Fantom blockchain, has voiced support for Solana, emphasizing that the current challenges are a result of the network's rapid growth and increased demand for block space. He has characterized the issues as technical hurdles rather than flaws in the network's consensus mechanism, describing Solana as a "victim of its own success."

This is not the first time Solana has experienced network downtime. In February, the blockchain experienced a major outage that lasted for over five hours due to a bug in Solana's Just-in-Time (JIT) compilation cache. Since January 2022, the blockchain has faced roughly six major outages and 15 days with either complete or partial service interruptions.

The latest congestion issues have had a negative impact on the price of SOL, the native cryptocurrency of Solana. SOL has fallen by 10% in the past week and is currently trading around $177. SOL has also dropped to the fifth position in terms of market capitalization, according to CoinMarketCap.

Despite the recent challenges, Anza remains optimistic about Solana's future. The firm believes that the upcoming updates will significantly improve the network's performance and scalability, allowing it to meet the growing demand from users and developers.

As the Solana ecosystem continues to evolve, the network's ability to overcome congestion issues and provide a reliable and efficient platform will be crucial for its long-term success.
