Solana Network Hit by Persistent Congestion Despite Updates
Apr 25, 2024 at 08:00 pm
Despite improvements, Solana's transaction confirmation time remains elevated at 10–20 seconds, and its native token, SOL, has dropped below $150 due to a 7% decline in the last 24 hours. This situation contradicts claims that the network's congestion issues have been fully resolved.

Solana Network Congestion Persists Despite Updates
Solana, a renowned blockchain platform, is still experiencing congestion issues, contrary to recent claims that the network has been restored to normal operations. The transaction confirmation time, a crucial metric for users, has been elevated to 10–20 seconds, indicating ongoing challenges.
Mert Mumtaz, CEO of Solana-based developer platform Helius, refuted assertions by SolanaFloor, a data analytics platform, that the network's congestion problems had been fully resolved. "We've made some improvements, but by no means are we fully back to normal, and nothing has been completely resolved. Bunch of work left to do," Mumtaz stated in response to SolanaFloor's announcement on X (formerly Twitter).
The congestion issues stem from a surge in meme coin trading, which has tested Solana's capacity limits. An analysis by AMBCrypto revealed that on April 24th, approximately 60% of transactions on the chain failed. This rate had reached as high as 75% earlier in the month.
In response to the mounting criticism, Solana developers have implemented fixes, including the release of v1.17.31 to the mainnet on April 15th. Further enhancements are expected with the release of v1.18.
However, despite these efforts, transaction confirmation times remain elevated. Solana explorer data analyzed by AMBCrypto indicates that the average confirmation time has been hovering around 19–20 seconds.
The challenges faced by Solana have impacted its native token, SOL. The coin has dropped below $150 after a 7% decline in the past 24 hours, according to CoinMarketCap. This dip coincides with a broader market retracement affecting major cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum.
Analysis of sentiment data by AMBCrypto reveals a surge in Solana-related mentions on major crypto-focused channels in the past 24 hours. However, the negative Weighted Sentiment indicator suggests that negative commentary surrounding SOL has outweighed positive sentiment.
These developments underscore the ongoing challenges faced by Solana as it grapples with congestion and transaction failures. While the network continues to implement fixes, users may experience disruptions and elevated confirmation times until the underlying issues are fully resolved.
