Solana Mobile Introduces Its Decentralized TEEPIN Platform and Launches SKR Token

Solana Mobile, a subsidiary of blockchain company Solana Labs, has introduced its decentralized platform called TEEPIN and announced the launch of a native token named SKR. The company will also begin shipping its eagerly awaited second crypto smartphone, "Seeker," on August 4.

TEEPIN (Trusted Execution Environment Platform Infrastructure Network) will introduce a three-layer framework that enables secure and trustless mobile connectivity for developers, users, and hardware makers, the company said on Wednesday.

This move supports Solana Mobile's efforts to expand to more hardware partners and decentralize the Web3 space.

"TEEPIN represents the next evolution in mobile - a framework where trust isn't granted by a central authority but verified through cryptography," the company said.

"By leveraging secure hardware that already exists on modern smartphones and governing access on-chain, we're unlocking open innovation, platform ownership, and a decentralized future for mobile."

The team announced on X that SKR will underpin the ecosystem's financial and incentive systems, and it will grant ownership benefits directly to users and developers.

But that’s not all…

"Aligning incentives is essential to building a truly decentralized and self-sustaining mobile ecosystem," Solana Mobile General Manager Emmett Hollyer said. "It transforms the traditional mobile business model by giving stakeholders actual ownership in the platform. Instead of passively consuming in someone else's walled garden, users, developers, and hardware manufacturers actively steward a community-owned digital infrastructure."

Solana Mobile launched the Seeker in two distinct pricing phases - the initial Founder phase at $450 and a subsequent Early Adopter phase at $500.

Assuming customers purchased devices at the $450 price level, Solana Mobile could generate no less than $67.5 million in total gross revenue.

By comparison, Apple generated $199.3 billion in revenue from iPhone sales in the year 2024.

Web3 community members had mixed reactions to Solana Mobile's first device, the Saga: some praised it as a revolutionary step forward and compared it to the iPhone era, while others expressed skepticism due to past network outages, with Certik suggesting it was vulnerable.

In late 2023, memecoins stored on Saga devices surged in value, which unexpectedly turned the phones into profitable assets and boosted their popularity.

As demand escalated, several individuals listed Saga units on eBay with hefty price tags in the thousands, which ultimately caused the phones to sell out completely by December 2023.

Solana Mobile first announced the release of Seeker in September last year. Per the firm, Seeker comes with upgrades including a lighter design, longer battery life, a better camera, and a brighter screen.

It includes an integrated Seed Vault Wallet for secure crypto transaction management with a simple double tap, developed in collaboration with Solflare.

The Seeker features an upgraded Solana dApp Store for easier app discovery and reward tracking, supporting various Web3 applications like DeFi and NFT platforms.

Each Seeker device comes with a unique soulbound NFT, the Seeker Genesis Token, providing users with access to exclusive Solana ecosystem rewards and content.

Additionally, the device enables third-party apps to utilize valuable data such as GPS and cellular information, beneficial for decentralized physical infrastructure networks (DePIN).

Solana Mobile partnered with hardware company Fxtec and incorporated the Solana Mobile Stack to facilitate the development of mobile-first decentralized apps (dApps).
