Solana Founder Anatoly Yakovenko Dismissed Ethereum's Pectra Upgrade as Insignificant

May 10, 2025 at 05:33 pm

Anatoly Yakovenko, a co-founder of Solana (SOL), recently took to X, formerly Twitter, to share his thoughts on the recent Pectra upgrade on the Ethereum (ETH) network.

Yakovenko appeared to be unimpressed with the fanfare surrounding the Pectra update, suggesting that a single Solana V2.2 update brings about an equal or even greater increase in capacity compared to five Pectra upgrades combined.

"Solana 2.2 vs Ethereum Pectra - what's being reported. They increased the per-block compute limit from 50M to 60M CUs, so a 20% capacity. Now, according to Bendik, that adds as much capacity to Solana as 5 Pectra upgrades would add. Pectra is adding 2x on-chain blob capacity to Ethereum, raising the target blob count from 3 to 6 per block, slashing data-availability costs and latency for all rollup protocols. As Vitalik noted, this change "will help to double the capacity of layer-2 networks, delivering an immediate 2x boost to rollup throughput, paving the way for more scalable dApps and DeFi solutions." Both interesting updates, no?" Yakovenko stated.

Anatoly Yakovenko's remarks come as Solana recently introduced its V2.2 update, showcasing a significant increase in throughput. This installment in the Solana software release cycle brings forth a 20% surge in throughput, rendering it the largest-magnitude upgrade in the past two years.

The introduction of Pectra marks the 11th Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP) in this series, focusing on improvements to the user experience, staking, and Layer-2 scaling aspects of the network.

These updates are part of an ongoing effort to make the network faster, more efficient, and easier to use. In a recent blog post, Vitalik Buterin, the founder of Ethereum, disclosed that the blockchain is undergoing changes to reduce its technical complexity, ultimately aiming to make it more accessible to users.

As the two blockchain giants continue on their respective paths of innovation, the narrative of which network reigns supreme is set to unfold further with each technological advancement.
