Solana ETFs: Uncertain Future as Experts Question Viability and Appeal
Aug 18, 2024 at 02:30 am
While Bitcoin ETFs are experiencing unprecedented success, the future of Solana ETFs seems much more uncertain. Crypto industry experts are indeed questioning the viability and appeal of these new investment vehicles based on SOL.

Bitcoin ETFs are achieving great success, but the future of Solana ETFs is more uncertain. Experts are questioning the appeal of SOL ETFs.
Katalin Tischhauser, head of research at Sygnum, highlights the lack of interest from American investors in Solana ETFs. The Grayscale Solana Trust (GSOL) has assets under management of around $70 million. This is much lower than the $30 billion Grayscale Bitcoin Trust had before it became an ETF.
Solana is also less well-known than Bitcoin. Despite GSOL trading at a premium of over 700% to the net asset value, Tischhauser believes it will not have a major impact on the crypto market.
In contrast, Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs saw record inflows in 2024, with around $63 billion in assets under management. Dave LaValle, global head of ETFs at Grayscale, said that BTC ETFs saw more than three times the largest annual inflow of any exchange-traded fund in history.
This massive adoption has led to speculation about which crypto assets will be launched as ETFs next. However, the prospects for Solana seem less promising.
BlackRock has already said it is not interested in launching a sol ETF because its clients are not interested in it. Some smaller ETF issuers may be interested in launching Solana products, but the impact on the crypto market is likely to be minimal.
The future of these digital assets is therefore uncertain in the face of the overwhelming dominance of Bitcoin and Ethereum.
