You could be sitting on a fortune - valuable coins down the back of your sofa

We don't just mean it like the cliche - there actually could be valuable coins down the back of your sofa! So how can you spot them?

You could be sitting on a fortune - valuable coins down the back of your sofa

There could be valuable coins down the back of your sofa – and one piece in particular is worth keeping your eyes out for.

Thankfully, the money gurus @coincollectingwizard shared their top advice on TikTok.

And apparently, there's one piece you should really keep your eyes out for.

The coin in question is the 1882 1p from the UK.

And while it looks unassuming at first glance, the one pence is actually worth £280 due to a unique detail.

Unlike other varieties, the copper has a H mark beneath the date rather than to the left.

It's so small you'd probably need a microscope to spot it.

One side of the coin displays the young head of Queen Victoria, which was nicknamed the bun head due to the former monarch's hairdo.

Meanwhile, the reverse face depicts Britannia, who is seated next to a shield holding an almighty trident.

The TikTok user explained: "The 1882 with a H mint mark is very valuable.

"But this does also depend on one condition, if you are lucky enough to find an uncirculated version of this coin, then it is worth over £280.

"I was lucky enough to find this coin in a pre-decimal coin hunt recently.

"Just remember the important rule with these pre-decimal coins, it all depends on the date."

People were chuffed to learn about the valuable coin and took to the comments section to crack jokes.

One said: "Find a penny pick it up and all day you'll have good luck."

Another said: "I'm taking notes," while a third chimed in: "Got one older".

Previously, we revealed the Royal Mint had released a new Millennium Falcon coin – and it's safe to say Star Wars fans were excited.

Meanwhile, we also told you about a rare 50p coin that fetched £150 after an online bidding war.

So it's really worth checking your change!
