Mini heatwaves are set to hit the UK this week, with temperatures set to soar to 29C.

The Met Office forecasts highs of 29C in parts of the country on Thursday (May 1) and said temperatures could climb to even 30C.

Whilst we all love a bit of sunshine, the heat can often become unbearable at times.

Due to our milder climate, most Brits don't have the luxury of air conditioning in their homes.

However, there is an easy hack which will make you feel like you have air con without the high costs to install it.

An AO expert has shared some innovative and cheap ways to keep cool at home during the mini heatwave, including homemade AC.

Nick Small, small appliances expert at AO.com, says you can ‘beat the heat’ using household items you already own.

“Whilst bathing in the sunny weather is a wonderful thing, us Brits aren't used to it.

"With no air conditioning in our homes and the heatwave upon us, there are some creative ways using household items to help you beat the heat.”

One of her hacks includes making a budget home-made air conditioner as a simple and effective way to cool down.

Fans can often circulate the hot air in your home, so it is instead advised to place a container or bowl of ice in front of your fan.

"The ice-cold air will then circulate around the room keeping you nice and cool," Nick explained.

"You should also lay down a towel underneath to absorb any condensation."

Amidst the high temperatures, people have taken to Reddit to search for hacks to keep cool.

One user @DeadBallDescendant recommend: "A cheap option is a bowl of ice in front of the fan. (Apparently)."

Responding to this @SuspiciousOne5 said: "Use a camping freezer pack and you won't keep having to make or buy the icecubes. One pack in freezer and one pack in front of the fan.

They confirmed: "Ice in front of a fan saved me while working from home in a heatwave in a little box room office."
