Shogun Scores $6.9 Million to Revolutionize DeFi with Intent-Centric Protocol

Intent-Centric DeFi Protocol Shogun Secures $6.9 Million Seed Funding

Introduction

Intensity Labs, the team behind the groundbreaking "intent-centric" DeFi protocol Shogun, has announced a successful seed funding round amounting to $6.9 million. This funding will fuel Shogun's ambitious mission to revolutionize the decentralized finance (DeFi) landscape.

Seed Funding Details

Polychain Capital and DAO5 led the oversubscribed funding round, joined by a consortium of esteemed investors. Arrington Capital, Arthur Hayes' family office Maelstrom, and Build-a-Bera participated in the round. Angel investors Cobie, Ansem, Ser Shokunin, and Meltem Demirors also extended their support.

The seed funding was structured as a simple agreement for future equity (SAFE) with token warrants, bringing Shogun's fully diluted token valuation to $69 million.

Shogun Protocol: An Overview

Shogun is an innovative DeFi protocol focused on maximizing trader extractable value (TEV). TEV represents the potential maximum profit traders can generate using various trading strategies. Shogun achieves this by strategically routing liquidity through a hybrid model comprising market makers, centralized exchanges, and on-chain fulfillment via decentralized exchanges and passive liquidity vaults.

"Shogun's intent is to empower traders by providing a unified platform that grants access to every token across multiple blockchains," said Rahul Patel, co-founder of Intensity Labs. "Our goal is to eliminate the need for multiple wallets and accounts, consolidating the trading experience into a single, intuitive interface."

Features and Functionality

Shogun's comprehensive platform offers a wide range of trading options, including a trading bot, desktop/mobile UI, and trading widgets integrated into third-party apps. This versatile approach allows traders to choose the method that best suits their needs.

Patel envisions Shogun as the web3 equivalent of fintech giant Plaid. "Plaid revolutionized fintech by seamlessly linking banks, enabling enhanced personal finance management," he explained. "Shogun is pursuing a similar objective in the web3 space, allowing non-crypto companies to effortlessly incorporate DeFi into their applications."

Shogun's adaptability extends to the integration of trading aggregators like Solana-based Jupiter. "Shogun empowers any app to deploy its own Jupiter-like functionality, catering to specific chains or cross-chain scenarios," Patel added.

Ecosystem Partnerships and Integrations

Several ecosystems have expressed keen interest in Shogun's cross-chain capabilities and agnostic approach. Boopiter, a "meme-ified" version of Jupiter, will serve the Berachain ecosystem, while the Cosmos ecosystem will host a version through its Interchain Info service. Ongoing discussions are underway with other leading ecosystems within EVM L2s and MoveVM.

Protocol Rollout and Token

The Shogun protocol will be rolled out in phases, with the on-chain routing tool scheduled for release in the second quarter of 2023. The protocol will introduce its native token, GUN, to facilitate governance and other utility functions.

Team Expansion and Outlook

Intensity Labs currently employs a team of ten dedicated individuals. Patel intends to expand the engineering department to enhance Shogun's supported networks and bring its game-changing technology to a broader user base.

Conclusion

Shogun's $6.9 million seed funding round is a testament to the industry's recognition of its innovative approach to DeFi. By focusing on maximizing TEV and providing a comprehensive trading platform, Shogun is poised to reshape the DeFi landscape, empowering traders with unprecedented access and flexibility. As the protocol progresses through its development phases, it will be closely watched by the entire cryptocurrency ecosystem.
