Shibarium's Layer-2 Blockchain Achieves a Remarkable Feat Processing Over 1 Billion Transactions
Apr 02, 2025 at 07:00 am
The Layer-2 blockchain of a popular meme coin has achieved a remarkable feat processing over 1 billion transactions since its inception in 2023. By Sam Smith.

Shibarium, the Layer-2 blockchain of Shiba Inu (CRYPTO: SHIB) token, has hit a new milestone.

What Happened: Shibarium has processed over 1 billion transactions, a significant achievement for the token, which could herald the increasing adoption of Shiba Inu.
Shibarium, launched in August 2023, reached the 1 billion transactions milestone on March 31, according to reports.
The Layer-2 blockchain is known for its high throughput and speed, which could explain how it was able to process such a large volume of transactions in a short period.
Shibarium is also capable of handling a large number of transactions per second, making it one of the most scalable blockchains available today.
Shibarium’s rapid journey to 1 billion transactions is a testament to the token’s robustness and the active participation of the blockchain community, market observers added.
While other cryptocurrencies, like Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) and Ethereum (CRYPTO: ETH), have also processed more than 1 billion transactions, Shibarium is said to have achieved the same mark at a faster rate.
Bitcoin, for instance, took 15 years to reach the 1 billion transactions milestone, while Shibarium did so in less than two years.
Shibarium Facts: According to Shibariumscan, the L2 blockchain has also seen 193,934,368 unique addresses interact with the network since its launch in 2023.
The Shiba Inu blockchain network boasts a total of 10,234,638 mined blocks, with an average block time of 5.0 seconds.
Shibarium was launched on August 16, 2023, and saw its first transaction at 01:07:58 (UTC).
Shibarium went offline for two weeks after its launch due to technical issues. It went back online in late August and has been operational ever since.
