Sei Network Launches Community-Driven Improvement Proposal Framework

May 06, 2025 at 03:07 pm

Sei introduces a new framework for community-driven protocol evolution, enabling developers, validators, and users to propose and implement changes within the ecosystem.

Sei Network Launches Community-Driven Improvement Proposal Framework

Sei Network, the high-performance blockchain designed for DeFi, has introduced a framework for community-driven protocol evolution with Sei Improvement Proposals (SIPs). Similar in structure to Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) and Bitcoin Improvement Proposals (BIPs), SIPs provide a formalized pathway for stakeholders to propose, discuss, and implement changes within the Sei ecosystem.

Each SIP is a detailed design document that proposes a new feature or modification to the network, including technical specifications and justifications. The proposals are open for discussion and feedback on the Sei Network forum, where community members can contribute their thoughts and suggestions.

The progression of a SIP involves several stages: idea, draft, review, last call, final, implemented, and activated. This structured lifecycle ensures that each proposal undergoes rigorous community scrutiny and technical evaluation before being deployed on the Sei mainnet.

The introduction of SIPs marks a significant governance shift, but it also has broader strategic implications. Developers can directly influence core protocol features and document technical decisions, while validators gain a formal channel for consensus optimizations and network parameter adjustments. Meanwhile, users and token holders can benefit from increased transparency and involvement in feature prioritization.

The first SIP from the Sei ecosystem is authored by members of the Silo team and focuses on enhancing validator capabilities with offchain transaction bundles. This proposal aims to optimize blockspace efficiency and fee revenue, representing a strategic step towards advanced transaction ordering within the network.

This initiative underscores Sei's dedication to progressive decentralization, empowering builders and users to shape the network's future. It also complements Sei's existing decentralization efforts, such as expanding its validator set and open-sourcing core protocol components.

Community members are encouraged to participate in the SIP process by either proposing new ideas or joining the ongoing discussions. This collaborative approach aims to harness the collective intelligence of the community to drive technological and governance innovations within the ecosystem.
