Scott Highlights Bitcoin’s Potential at ‘Bitcoin 2024’ Conference
Jul 30, 2024 at 05:06 pm
The Bitcoin 2024 Conference is the largest Bitcoin conference in the world with more than 20,000 attendees.

Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.) highlighted Bitcoin's potential to democratize finance and improve financial inclusion at the Bitcoin 2024 Conference.
During a panel discussion titled "For Love of Country & Bitcoin," Scott emphasized the importance of creating a fair regulatory environment for the digital asset industry. He highlighted the role of Bitcoin in providing access to financial resources and opportunities, particularly for those who need them the most.
"The ability to bring resources and opportunities and access to the marketplace, to the people who need it most, that's what Bitcoin is about. That's what this is about – giving the average American a chance to make their own decisions at home," said Scott.
He stressed the need for a regulatory environment that values both freedom and responsibility, adding that it is crucial to ensure that innovation in the digital asset space continues to take place in the United States, rather than shifting overseas.
"We need a regulatory environment that understands that freedom and liberty are inseparable. We need to make sure that the innovation that we're talking about, the opportunity that we're talking about, continues to happen here in the United States of America, not someplace else," said Scott.
Scott's participation in the Bitcoin 2024 Conference underscores his growing engagement with the digital asset ecosystem. As the top Republican on the Senate Banking Committee, he has consistently advocated for a balanced approach to digital assets.
At a recent committee hearing on the topic, Scott highlighted the importance of safe and sound financial innovation. He urged his colleagues to pursue a thoughtful approach that protects consumers while also fostering innovation and opportunity in the digital asset realm.
Moreover, Scott has expressed concerns about the Biden administration's attempts to use digital assets as a convenient scapegoat for its foreign policy shortcomings. He has emphasized the need to address the root causes of terrorism financing, rather than unfairly singling out digital assets.
notably, Scott supported a Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution introduced by Senator Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.) to overturn the Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC) Staff Accounting Bulletin (SAB) 121. The bulletin made it challenging for banks to custody Bitcoin, a move that was ultimately reversed following industry pushback.
