The Sandbox Raises $20M to Build a Decentralized Mobile Metaverse Platform by 2025
Jun 07, 2024 at 03:30 pm
In a recent development for the metaverse market, user-generated content platform The Sandbox has raised $20 million in convertible debt.

User-generated content platform The Sandbox has raised $20 million in convertible debt, bringing its valuation to the milestone of $1 billion, according to a recent development in the metaverse market.
The Sandbox sold convertible promissory notes worth $20 million, with a valuation cap set at $1 billion due to investors’ optimism in the project's potential. Kingsway Capital and Animoca Brands led the funding round. Among the investors were also LG Tech Ventures and True Global Ventures.
The funding will go toward the creation of a decentralized mobile metaverse platform, which is planned for 2025. The Sandbox aims to enhance its current user-created multiplayer gaming experience.
Highlighting some core principles of the metaverse, Yat Siu, Co-founder of Animoca Brands, pointed out the centrality of digital ownership. The Sandbox marks a progression toward user-generated content games that instill ownership rights in the creators. With 5.7 million user accounts linked to cryptocurrency wallets, The Sandbox has seen over 1,000 user-created experiences shared since the Alpha version was released in November 2023.
The Sandbox envisions a metaverse where users are empowered to create their content. They aim to create a virtual reality-free world where anyone can develop, sell, and distribute experiences. The Sandbox is an open-world gaming platform that utilizes blockchain technology, enabling users to create their games and participate in the virtual economy.
The Sandbox is a decentralized gaming NFT metaverse built on Ethereum, providing an easy way to program, buy, and sell NFTs for VR products. Similar to Minecraft, The Sandbox allows players to create their world by using blocks in creative and innovative ways. It's like playing with LEGOs with bits and bytes, where the users can build and mold space.
The Sandbox also resembles Roblox in the sense that it allows users to build their games in the metaverse. Assets and game programming allow players to add interactivity to the created assets. These user-generated games are not only playable but can also be passed from one user to the other.
It leverages a native token named SAND to support the economic model within the games available on the platform. NFTs are tokens that assure ownership rights; it means that unique assets can be bought and sold by users.
The Sandbox runs on the Ethereum platform, ensuring the decentralized ownership and management of the game. It does not require the presence of an authority with whom the users can associate themselves to gain access to the system. NFTs have been revolutionizing the ways people collect art, form communities, and even engage in games.
The rising valuation of The Sandbox showcases the metaverse's potential. As the utilization of the digital space advances, Sandbox aims to be a platform where users take the reins in creating unique and original content. The Sandbox continues to lead the way in the emerging metaverse landscape.
